Have you ever wondered what was the first Duende didgeridoo?
I know I did. It is not a trivial question. Many of my earlier didgeridoos had sort of outstanding qualities. Yet, at some point when I got hold of my first eucalypti to realize my visions things changed. There has been a great accumulation of energy and the very first didge I made from this eucalyptus tree-asure made unexpectedly strong reactions. People who knew many things about didges asked me literally like this “WOW! What’s that!?!?”. And it was the first of Duende.
The Reference.
It was very convincing to play it again to myself and other people. It made the doubts about what other world of didgeridoo is possible fade, and stronger and stronger visions came to life. This didgeridoo is beyond my knowledge. Most certainly at that time I did not know what I was doing and quite certainly I don’t know now exactly why it is magical. Honestly, I never do. Magic is something I accept, but I am never able to conceptually produce.

So what is the role of The Reference now? I use it every time I make new didgeridoo to compare it, and to find sense and role in the didgeridoo realm of the new instrument. Because one can get lost in detail during long hours of chiseling, in tracking the story of a certain didgeridoo. If I get lost, I can’t know how valuable is something I already have in this process- should I stay or should I go. The Reference puts my both feet on the solid ground. And then I know where I am in fullness, volume, spectrum richness, easiness and impedances of toots of the new creature being made. The Reference is my quality control. My didgeridoo adviser. My friend. My brother. My helper. My support. My instrument. My guide. My didgeridoo love.

p.s. Soon you will be able to see it (and hear it) among the didgeridoos on this website.
